Keyboard shortcuts

All the messaging shortcuts, and how to change them.

Shortcuts trigger messaging actions from the keyboard, from the reply field. You see and change them in Settings › Shortcuts. Your shortcuts follow you on all your devices.

Settings › Shortcuts: the send key, then the shortcuts of the AI and Messaging sectionsSettings › Shortcuts: the send key, then the shortcuts of the AI and Messaging sections

Send a message

In Sending, choose the key that sends:

  • Enter: Enter sends, Shift + Enter adds a new line;

  • Cmd + Enter on Mac, Ctrl + Enter on Windows: Enter adds a new line, the combination sends.

Default shortcuts

By default, a shortcut is Option on Mac, or Alt on Windows, followed by a letter. Actions with no default shortcut wait for the one you give them.

Change a shortcut

  1. 1

    Click the shortcut to change

    The field starts listening.

  2. 2

    Press the new combination

It must contain Alt, Option, Cmd or Ctrl. Escape cancels, Backspace removes the shortcut.

Some combinations are refused, with an explanation: system ones, such as copy, paste or undo, and on Windows Ctrl + Alt, which is used to type @, € or #. A combination only serves one action: if you give it to another one, it is removed from the first and the app tells you. Reset puts all shortcuts back to their defaults.

Other keys

  • Cmd + K on Mac, Ctrl + K on Windows, opens Search, to go to a page, a creator or a setting.

  • The Dictation key starts dictation in the reply field. It is set at the bottom of this page or in Settings › General, and stays specific to each computer.
